A typical barstool swivels around 360 degrees for comfort, not to mention sociability. No wonder they’re found in places where people gather to have fun, like bars, restaurants, game rooms and in kitchens, gardens, backyards.

When shopping for swivel bar stools demand comfort and durability. There are a lot to choose from: they come in a variety of materials, with or without back, hard seats on cushioned seats, and with or without armrests. The swivel barstools can be made into various styles, ranging from classic barstool look to modern criss-crossed shapes. They may also have self-leveling foot glides to adjust the height of the barstool.

The most important feature to look at is the swivel mechanism, which should be durable and of high quality so the stool rotates 360 degrees with ease. In some cases, where children are likely to misuse this feature, or where full rotation is not required, a memory return swivel could be fitted to the stool. This spring loaded mechanism allows the back to swivel about only 100 degrees in either direction, thus restricting the rotation. It also returns back to its original position facing the counter.

For the swivel bar stools with a back, check that swivel backs do not touch the counter when swiveled 180 degrees. This is a point generally missed since you tend to see the front side of the stool when shopping. Similarly if the stool has arms, ensure that they do not collide with the counter top when being swiveled. Shorter stools that fit easily under the counter top are preferred. Generally the height of the barstools seat is 10 to 13 inches lower than the counter top. The swivel barstools can be easily picked up from nearby marketplace or from the Internet outlets.

We expect a lot from our clocks. We expect them to be breathtakingly beautiful. We expect them to make a strong statement about our status in life. They should brighten our home with their elegance. Their rich chimes should fill our life with music. Above all else, though, they should be reliable and steadfast.

At some point, we’ve all heard the phrase that something works “like clockwork.” That is how dependable we expect our clocks to be. We think of them as infallible. Clocks have become a symbol of everything strong and faithful. In fact, we put our lives in their hands, trusting them to keep us on time, on track, and on schedule. What could be a better symbol of steadfast loyalty than the grandfather clock? Standing well over 6 feet tall and constructed of solid wood, they are the very picture of faithful duty.

In the world of grandfather clocks, German grandfather clocks are known to be well-made and valuable. They are among the most respected and trusted clocks of all. In fact, some of the most revered antique grandfather clocks are of German craft. Harfen-Gong grandfather clocks, for example, are German-made antiques. Many are still working today, which is further testimony to the quality of German craftsmanship. Another popular German clock was made by Berger & Wuerker in the early 1900s.

German parts are often an intricate ingredient even in clocks made in other parts of the world. In any country, German movements are synonymous with quality and reliability. The oldest existing maker of mechanical movements is the Kieninger Clock Factory, founded in Germany in 1912 by Joseph Kieninger. Today, many of the world’s best clocks, such as Howard Miller and Ridgeway, rely on the technology of German movements.

Though most grandfather clocks are not actually made in Germany today, the German technology is still the driving force behind some of the greatest and most valuable grandfather clocks on the market.

Barstools come in a variety of styles and are made of wood or metal. They can be either swivel or stationary, with back or backless, with arms or without arms, upholstered or hard seat. The price depends on the quality of raw materials being used to manufacture the barstools and the designing effort that has been put into it. Wooden bar stools would generally cost less than metal.

Similarly off the shelf barstools would be cheaper than the custom made ones.

It a buyer decides to go in for cheap barstools the purchase may be based on budget and how long the stools are expected to be used. If it is to be used for a very short term, then one can forego the durability of the barstool and can opt for inexpensive options. If the price of a barstool is on the cheaper side, expect some compromise on raw material, workmanship or durability. Typically, better quality barstools have longer life expectancies and come with longer warranties and higher prices. Sometimes imported barstools come at a lot cheaper price than local ones, but they generally have short lifespan.

But there are instances where you are likely to get good quality stuff also at cheaper prices. Stores, who wish to get rid of their leftover pieces of furniture quickly, advertise this. They offer discounts for picking up these few pieces on ‘as is where is’ basis. Also some shops would sell good quality stuff at lower process by packaging few things together. For example, they would be selling two bar stools at a much lower price as compared to buying one barstool. In such cases, there is not much choice for colors or design to select from, but you get good quality stuff for cheaper price.

Check your local shopping areas for the discount offers or alternatively check Internet for these special deals.

Like the storied countryside of England, grandfather clocks from that country are rich in history and tradition. The first known pendulum clock was made in 1656. Grandfather clocks got their name in 1875 from a song by Henry Work. Grandfather clocks are also known as longcase or tallcase clocks.

English clockmakers have been involved in grandfather clock design and construction since the beginning. English grandfather clocks span a period of history that included the reign of Charles II, the Queen Anne period, the Georgian period, and the days of Queen Victoria. In fact, the famous Eastgate Clock was designed to celebrate Queen Victoria’s 80th birthday in 1897.

English grandfather clocks are not the work of a single man. Rather, they exemplify the best in teamwork. Each clock is a testament to a fine collaboration between designers, woodworkers, and silversmiths. Only the finest craftsman in each category worked on the clocks. Together, they created grandfather clocks that were beautiful, functional, and long-lasting.

In early 18th century, English grandfather clocks were made with moon dials. This enabled clock owners to know the moon phase at a glance, in addition to the hour and the minute. More than just a stylish fad, the moon dial was critical to the lifestyle of the day. This feature was helpful to travelers, as they often needed their journeys to coincide with the moon’s phases. Journeys were safer by the light of the moon. Moon phases were also helpful for farmers. Some clocks today still feature a moon dial and lunar calendar.

Today, many antique English grandfather clocks are still in circulation. These valuable clocks are quite popular with collectors. Some popular English grandfather clocks include those by Holmes, Trubshaw, Thomas Cartwright, Thomas Wright, Matthew & Thomas Dutton, Daniel Quare, Allam & Clements, and Thomas Johnson. For a clock of enduring quality and classic beauty, any of these fine examples would be a valuable prize for someone considering the purchase of an English grandfather clock.

Outdoor barstools are used in homes and commercial spaces for gardens, game areas, balconies, barbecue parties etc. The concept behind outdoor barstools is to be able to enjoy the outdoors in the comfort of your own garden, yard, patio, or poolside. Being outdoors basically extends the living and entertaining area into a natural environment. To complement this, a variety of styles and designs are available in barstools especially for outdoors.

For outdoor barstools, it is better to buy in the material that is resistant to climate changes. This would enhance the life of the items since they could invariably be exposed to sun, rain, heat, dust and cold, depending on the climate of the area one is staying in. If the outdoor barstools are sturdy and can bear the climatic changes, then one does not need to rush out every now and then to rescue them from weather variations. And as in any outdoor furniture, it is recommended to go in for the folding type since they might need to be moved around relocated frequently. Even barstools are available in folding style.

Outdoor barstools can be had with or without backs and arms. They might be swivel or stationary, depending on need and preference. The metal varieties tend to last longer outdoors. Wooden bar stools are specially treated to survive the elements.

The height of the stools must be judged carefully. Generally the height of the barstools seat is 10 to 13 inches lower than the counter top, where they are placed. These outdoor barstools can be bought from the local furniture shops or from the Internet. But whatever type of outdoor barstool is bought, be sure to follow the suggested cleaning and maintenance instructions provided by the supplier.

Whether it is a basic bong-bong-bong or a thrilling symphony, the sound of a grandfather clock faithfully chiming the hour is music to the ears for many people. However, the high price tag makes the clock strikes flat for the majority. Most people are simply unable or unwilling to spend thousands of dollars for a clock, no matter how beautiful or rich-sounding. However, these people do have alternatives.

Discount grandfather clocks are available for the budget-minded consumer. Many online companies sell grandfather clocks at reasonable prices. Furniture 2 Your Door, for example, offers a walnut finish grandfather clock with chime for $220.

Local discount furniture stores are also good options for discount grandfather clocks. Discount stores often sell decorative grandfather clocks, sometimes for under $200. While these cheap grandfather clocks may not be heirloom-quality, they can still be heirloom beautiful. If your main concern is to have an attractive piece of furniture without breaking the bank, these discount grandfather clocks are a good choice.

You can also buy higher quality clocks for less at online stores. One such outlet recently offered a Howard Miller Reigel grandfather clock for $1755; much less than its list price of $2925. One note about buying from online stores: make sure you include the shipping charges when you are comparing prices. This often overlooked aspect can make a huge difference. Sometimes it is worthwhile to pay a bit more at a local company or an online one that offers free shipping.

It is also possible to find undiscovered treasures at flea markets or garage sales. Sometimes people will unwittingly sell a high-quality grandfather clock for mere dollars. More often, however, you get exactly what you paid for—a good-looking albeit cheap clock. Unless you are knowledgeable in grandfather clocks, do not assume you have struck gold. Enjoy the clock for its looks, and if it turns out to be valuable that will be an added bonus.

If you have no interest in collecting clocks or reselling them, it is quite possible to own a beautiful grandfather clock at a discount price. Money saved is music to everyone’s ears.

Bar stools serve their purpose in commercial bars, restaurants and game rooms, as well as kitchens and home bars. They are often referred to as counter stools and more households are adding them to the décor every day.

Bar stools come in various styles, shapes, materials, sizes, fabrics and prices. Before purchasing a bar stool, it is important to know exactly why is it required, where is it going to be kept, who is going to use it most often, how often it will be used and what is the budget. If the answers to these questions are clear, then the selection of the right bar stool becomes very easy.

First decide if the bar stool is meant for the kitchen, outdoors, bar or game room, then can decide how many are needed and of what durability. When buying bar stools for outdoors, avoid the wooded variety, since they won’t last when exposed to the elements. The size and comfort can be decided when it is known who is going to use them and where are they going to be placed.

If children are going to use them in the kitchen, a convenient seat height with backrest can be considered. Generally bar stools are available at from 24"" to 30"" seat height. But if the counter top is much higher, then the stools might have to be custom made to be able to sit comfortably. The size of the counter or bar top needs to be taken into account even when going in for a bar stool with arms. Ensure that the arms are at a height where they can easily slide under the counter. Basically the gap between the seat of the barstool and the counter top should be between 10-13 inches.

Nowadays barstools are available in various furniture styles and colors. Many have matching chair and dining sets to go with them. If the barstools are going to be exposed to lot of food and beverages, then it is better to go in for a barstool with no solid seats or a very durable fabric such as leather, vinyl or micro fiber. The style can be selected from swivel barstool or stationary one, with a back or backless seat, having arms or armless. Any of these styles could be available in metal or wood. Wood stools will have a warm feel to them while on the other hand metal ones are stark, contemporary and more durable. The designs could be selected from catalogues. And if the budget allows, one could have them especially designed for the specific needs and comfort. They could be ordered at the furniture outlet stores in your town or from the various stores listed on the Internet. It is always better to check the credentials of the supplier before placing the order, so that you are assured of good quality stuff. Once you have this wonderful piece of furniture with you, follow the cleaning instructions to maintain it beautifully.

I recently visited a friend who had gotten her own place after a long-time relationship. When I walked in her room I thought I had walked into a recreation of a small town thrift store. You know the kind, lots of odds and ends but nothing that really caught your eye. Now I’m no decorating queen, but even I know gaudy and mismatched when I see it.

The trick to making a living area express you, is not to fill it with simply "things you own" or "like". Rather, choose a few things that have contrasting yet complimentary colors to each other.

I encouraged my friend to maybe put some of the knick-knacks away and even rotate her collectibles if it made her feel better. After a whole day of helping her, we were able to turn her living room into a haven that really expressed who she was. It wasn’t necessary to display everything she owned. We placed some of her candles on a few shelves, put her tea-cup collection on a shelf and added a floral print pillow collection to the furnishings. That, and a few of her lamps, and her room looked completely different, better, and really let her style shine.

The name “grandfather clock” instantly conjures up images of a dark, musty room, grandpa sitting in his rocking chair, smoking a pipe. Curls of woodsy smelling smoke drift across the room as his faithful old clock strikes the hour. Though the name grandfather is definitely old-fashioned, the clocks aren’t. While much of their technology is a reflection of the earliest clocks, the styles have evolved through the years.

Contemporary grandfather clocks are available in a wide range of styles. Whatever your taste, you are sure to find a clock to match. Today’s grandfather clocks can fit into any décor, including Oriental, Victorian or Minimalist. Moreover, a grandfather clock can become the focal point of a room, with everything else simply accentuating and supporting it.

Howard Miller is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of grandfather clocks ranging in price from $800 to $13,000. Sligh grandfather clocks are famous for their exquisite finish and sound and can be found in both traditional and contemporary designs. Ridgeway grandfather clocks have been made in Ridgeway, Virginia using German movements since 1960. Bulova is a well-known leader in clock craftsmanship manufacturing their line of grandfather clocks in Canada.

No longer just for grandparents, contemporary grandfather clocks are available in a wide variety of styles and price ranges.
